mittered squares

okay this Saturday at 3:00 and a repeat on the following Thursday 1:30 we are going to have a long awaited aspecial class. We will be designing our very own jacket/cardi. Again you choose the yarn and some of you already have done so and you will design this jacket/cardi using mittered squares. In this first class you will learn all about mitters how you can customize the sizes that you need and where to place them. Please bring in graph paper and pencil and ofcourse the needles and yarn for your jacket/cardi.

There will be two more follow up classes one in December and one in January to help you along the way. Each meeting will be a new step to discuss.

Therefore if you haven't signed up call in to Nickie and see if there is any space left. We are keeping it to 6 students per class.

Hope to see you there!!

helmet liners

CALLING ALL KNITTERS!!
We are on a quest! Nancy has asked us to help her collect knitted helmet liners for the troops in Afghanistan. google K-help and you will see what we are talking about.
These liners need to be knitted in 100% wool such as Galway or Cascade 220, each hank will make 2 liners. They are basically caps very easy to knit and quick made one last night. Anyway
with purchase of either Galway or Cascade220 and upon the return of the liner we will give you a coupon for 10% off your next purchase of yarn. We are planning to ship the liners on or about December 15. If we can knit up two hats each we will have quite a few. Also I will teach anyone who is interested in learning how to knit the liners every Tuesday evening at 6:00pm.
Sooo Help Out please!!

On another note I promissed to give you a pattern and a pix well the pix is not here yet but here is the pattern:

With size 19 needles and two strands of Baby Alpaca Grand, you will need two hanks but you will also have left over (it takes about 75 yds )

Cast on 17 stitches

**Row 1: K1, P1, across
next repeat row 1 four more times ( you will have seed stitch)
next in keeping in seed stitch K1 yarn over (yo) 3 times, p1 yo 3 times, across the row
next in keeping in seed stitch knit 1 drop the yo, p1 drop the yo across the row**
(you will have very loopy stitches)
repeat from **row 1 to ** for an additional 5 more times a total of 6 repeat.

or you can cast on less and make a long scarf or cast on more and you can have a shawl. It is so versatile and soooo soft. You will love it.

A Blast of Early Winter?

Wow did you all see the snow! It's only October and this weather is acting like December. I guess this time the meteorologist have it right, it will be a cold and long winter. All of us here at Nonnas are rushing to finish our jackets.
We didn't expect to be needing them just yet. I am knitting an Asland Trend pattern with their yarn Guanaco in a brick red/brown, I have the two fronts and half of the back done. Nickie has already finished her car coat out of DB Donogal chunky, Nancy has finished two jackets I think, I can't keep count, Phylis is almost finished with her seed stitch Sublime sweater. But in between we have finished quite a few more.
The latest KAL is the Colonnade from Knitty.com by Stephen West. I blended two yarns (you know I have to blend) the Malabrigo worsted with TSC Gioiello in the brown tones it went quickly! Just blocked it last night. I actually made it larger. (I need the extra) I will be knitting another of Mr West shawls as a gift for an aunt of mine. Check out knitty.com or just go to westknits.blogspot.com there you will see all of his patterns and some are for sale. Really an interesting young man.
Also we have come up with a great simple pattern that seems to fly off the shelves. It takes one hour to knit up and about 75yds+/- of Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande or Malabrigo Chunky with size 19 needles and double strand. (you will need 2 hanks of either, but if you have 3 you will be able to knit up 2 cowls) I tell you I knitted two already, one out of each yarn. It may be worn as a cowl, a shawl or as a hood. I will have pix next time and I will share the patter with all of you. It's a great holiday gift.
We have a busy week ahead!!

A Busy Time of Year

We have been so busy this month. The class list hit the web and everyone is checking in on their favorite classes.
The Iris Schrier class is almost full we have room for 2 more if any are interested. A 3 hour workshop with Ms Schrier teaching how to knit a reversible two color different cabled scarf (The sample is in the shop) We will be knitting it with a beautiful hank of hand dyed cashmere and a hank of silk with sequins and beads. Its gorgeous! You have to see it.
Today is the first day of fall and we will be celebrating tonight with our magic ball gathering. It's promising to be a fun night.
Lots of new yarns have been slowly dropping in the latest is Lana Grossa. In this bunch there is one yarn that is chunky that I can't wait to knit with it has the look of felt. Then you have the opposite another yarn that is thin ( size 4) but it is soooooo soft and luscious. I can't decide which way should I go. Also the new yarn Prisms Stuff or something like that is flying off the shelves (pegs) it is such a fun yarn and one hank will do the job. We just ordered more to make a cute Lacy pull over for layering. Can't wait for that to come in.
I told you its a busy time around here I need more hands.
Now here's the latest pix!

Check out Natalie - wearing her new dragon scarf knitted in Tahki's Alpaca tweed!

Look at Phylis! Her first side way jacket completed, we sure did have a lot of fun in this KAL!

Now this toy was designed and knitted for a special little baby its the coolest thing!

Artyarns/fall schedule

It's official Ms Iris Schrier will be joining us Sunday, October 18 at 12:00 for a workshop in knitting reversible cables. We are so excited, as you all know I love modular knitting from Ms Schrier book with the lux yarns. Just finished a scarf using the beaded/sequins silk, that yarn is just unbelievable and the pattern was so much fun. (both scarf and patter is at the shop for you to see).

Everyone has been asking for our class list well wait no more it is listed on our website. We came up with so many classes there surely something for everyone. We have some samples projects in the shop, and we are still knitting some of them up as we speak! We have been and are still really very busy bees.

Should there be a class you would like and its not listed don't hesitate to call us and who knows we might be able to accommodate. You all know we are very flexible and try to please.

Also Debbie Bliss fall issued is in and wow really great projects are in it. We are all knitting different things from it, Nancy is itching to start the tote bag with donogal chunky, Nicky will be knitting the cape with luxury tweed and I started the mosaic blanket.

Have you noticed this fall new colors are all sorts of reds deep reds, brown reds, orange reds, we practically have sold out of all kinds of reds, but also all jewel tones are up for grabs.

Well enjoy the autumn!

Sideways jacket updates

This is Becky who walked in one day and loved our KAL project, decided she had to do it and voila she is finished!
In a weekend, imagine that!! And that is not all, as she was finishing, Becky decided she needed another project, a bolero for her daughter who is petite like Nickie (modeling here). The jacket was knitted with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky and the bolero is a Sublime pattern with Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK.
Now Becky is so thrilled with knitting garments that actually fit that she picked up three more to make and guess what she will be knitting another sideway jacket also in DB chunky in a beautiful gold color. (that one will be for herself)
We here at Nonna's love to see these great accomplishments from "our" ladies. It makes us very proud to know that we were able to assist in making it happen.
The other ladies that are also done with the KAL are Karen, Phylis, Lauren, Barbara, Marion, Helen and I'm not sure if I have forgoten anyone else, but as you ladies come in I'll take more pix!!!
